Google Tag Manager (GTM) integration is included in our Business and Enterprise plans. GTM can be added to your Shorthand stories or projects in the following ways:
As part of a custom theme
By adding your GTM Container ID into the story or project settings
See below for more information on how each of these integration methods works.
Adding Google Tag Manager to your custom theme
If you have a custom theme, simply contact our team and we can talk you through what you will need to provide. Please note: Custom themes are available only on some plans.
Contact [email protected] at any time to discuss your needs.
Having GTM as part of a theme means that everything you publish in Shorthand will already have your GTM container and the tags it contains automatically loaded, with no need to add the container manually.
Adding Google Tag Manager to your story or project
If you don’t have a custom theme or just need to add your GTM code to a specific story or project you can do so in the following ways:
Adding GTM to a story
Click on the 'Settings' tab in the story editor and scroll to the Analytics section. Simply insert the GTM Container ID into the field provided.
When you publish your story, the GTM container will be included in the page, and any tags added to your container — such as analytics tracking code, conversion events and marketing pixels — will fire upon story load or custom-defined click events, provided the tag triggering conditions are met.
For information on how to set up custom click events (for example, to track outgoing link or button clicks), see Google's click trigger documentation.
