Can I gather analytics for my Shorthand story?

Yes — there are a few options for collecting analytics on your Shorthand stories.

  1. Shorthand's own analytics service provides easy-to-read story stats for each of your published stories, directly from your Shorthand dashboard.

  2. If you have a plan that comes with a custom branded theme, our recommended way to add third party analytics tracking tags — such as Google Analytics or Adobe Analytics tags — is to have these added to your theme. This will ensure that the tags are automatically included in every story you publish. Alternatively, if you use a tag manager such as Google Tag Manager, we can install the tag manager container into your theme, allowing you to self-manage your analytics deployment, any other marketing and tracking tags (e.g., ad pixels or conversion events), and other software integrations (e.g., cookie consent managers) through the container.

  3. If you use Google Analytics but don't have a branded theme (on our entry-level plans), you can insert a Google Analytics tracking ID into your stories through the Shorthand editor 'Settings' panel before publishing the story. Please note that this is not necessary if you're using method 2 above (a theme-based tag or tag manager installation), and that adding an analytics tag twice could result in page views and other analytics events being double-counted. Please check our pricing page to see if this option is available on your plan.

  4. If you use another analytics platform and you aren't using method 2 above (a theme-based tag or tag manager installation), you can use developer tools to insert Javascript into a story via the editor to add the necessary tags for your specific platform. This is option is available on some plans.
