Tables can be added to sections of your story by clicking on the table icon in the insert bar that appears at the start and end of each paragraph. You can also paste in tables from other sources such as Google Docs, Google Sheets, Word, Excel, Pages and Numbers. We support any file type a third-party editor can open provided that the editor supports copy and paste.
When you add a new table to the story, it will be created with three rows and three columns. The first row is designated as a 'header' row and has a contrasting background colour. There is no other content within the cells, though this can be added by clicking the cell and typing within it, pasting in content copied from elsewhere, or by accessing a menu for the cell and choosing to "Insert media".
Table controls
There are multiple menus to control aspects of a table. The various menus enable styling across the whole table, a whole column, row, or a single cell. To access the menus, click on a cell within the table. Buttons will appear within the cell itself; at the top of that cell's column, at the left of the row, and in the top-left corner of the table:
The menu that opens from the top-left corner button provides options to change aspects of the whole table simultaneously. The menu buttons at the top of the column and left of the row enable styling the whole column or row respectively, while the button within the clicked cell opens a menu to style the chosen cell and/or its content.
Text styles
To style text within a single cell, or to style only part of the text in a cell, highlight it and choose styles from the options menu.
Column control
To adjust the width of a column, hover over the cell border between the columns and an arrow will appear to allow the cell border to be dragged to the left or right.
Columns can be deleted, added, or set as a header column through the column menu that appears at the top of each column when a cell in that column is clicked. The same menu allows for other settings for a whole column including alignment, colour, and font choices.
Row control
Rows in a table can be set as a 'header' row, which will apply a different (and changeable) style to the row and also mark it as a 'header' for screen readers. Rows can be added, deleted, and their contents styled through the menu that appears after clicking the ellipsis button to the left of the row.
