Overview
Google Cloud Storage publishing lets your workspace publish Shorthand stories to a Google Cloud Storage bucket through a saved publishing configuration.
Before you start
Have these details ready before creating the publishing option:
The Google Cloud Project ID that owns the bucket.
The Google Cloud Storage Bucket name.
The URL Base where published stories will appear, including the protocol, hostname, and any path.
A Google Cloud service account key in JSON format with read and write access to the bucket.
Access to Workspace Settings > Publishing for the workspace.
Open workspace publishing settings
From the workspace dashboard, select Settings.
In the workspace settings sidebar, select Publishing under Workspace Settings.
Select Publishing in Workspace Settings.
Create a Google Cloud Storage publishing option
On Workspace publishing options, find Google Cloud Storage 1 click external hosting.
Select Create.
Create the Google Cloud Storage external hosting option.
The Google Cloud Storage option appears alongside other one-click external hosting options, such as Amazon S3 and Azure Blob Storage.
Enter the publishing details
Enter a Name that teammates will recognise when they publish a story.
Add a Description if teammates need extra context about when to use this publishing option.
Enter the Project ID for the Google Cloud project that owns the bucket.
Enter the Bucket name.
Enter the URL Base for the hosted story URL. Include the protocol, hostname, and any path where Shorthand stories will appear.
The Google Cloud Storage form asks for workspace-facing details and bucket details.
For URL Base, Shorthand uses the base URL together with the folder name supplied when publishing a specific story.
Choose the authentication method
Open Authentication Method.
Select Service Account Key JSON.
Choose Service Account Key JSON as the authentication method.
Google Cloud Storage publishing authenticates with a Google Cloud service account key in JSON format.
Paste the service account key and save
Paste the JSON contents of the Google Cloud service account key into Service Account Key JSON.
Review the details carefully.
Select Save when all required fields are complete.
Paste the service account key JSON into the service account field.
The service account key should have read and write access to the Google Cloud Storage bucket.
Verify the configuration
After saving, Shorthand may ask you to verify the Google Cloud Storage authentication. Select Verify to confirm that the service account key is correct before teammates use the publishing option.
Troubleshooting
Save is disabled: Check that all required fields are filled in and that Service Account Key JSON is selected as the authentication method.
Published story URLs are wrong: Review the URL Base. It should include the protocol, hostname, and any path where stories should appear.
Verification fails: Confirm the service account key JSON is valid and that the service account has read and write access to the bucket.
Teammates cannot find the option: Use a clear Name and Description, because these are shown to teammates when they publish..
