Ownership tells a team who owns the control of a story and who they want to collaborate with them. This helps gate a few features that editors can't do meaning the owner has full authority over who can be added to the story as an editor or viewer.
Note: Not all plans support individually assigning collaborators the View role on stories — in these cases, only Own and Edit will be shown.
How to transfer ownership to another user
To transfer ownership of a story on your Shorthand dashboard to another team member, they'll need to first be added as a collaborator on the story.
If your story doesn't yet have collaborators, you may wish to read Inviting collaborators to a story first.
If your story does already have other collaborators, follow these steps to swap ownership:
In your Workspace Dashboard, find the story card of the story you wish to swap ownership on and hover over the card. You should see 3 vertically aligned dots appear in the top right of the preview image for the story, click these 3 dots.
This will open a dropdown menu which includes the Collaborators option, click this option to open the Collaborators Panel.
Select the Collaborators option, and a window will open that shows the list of collaborators and icons next to their name. Grey icons indicate the possible roles that each user can be assigned, and blue icons indicate their current role with the story.
Click the star-shaped icon (for Own) next to the name of the collaborator you would like to make the new story owner. You'll be asked to confirm your choice.
This will transfer the ownership of the story to them, and you'll become an editor of the story. The new owner can not only edit the story, but also control who in the team has access to it.
A story can only have one owner at a time. Once you assign ownership to another team member, you will no longer be able to control viewers, editors or owners for that story — those rights will belong to the new owner.
