A tag is a short label that is visible on story cards on your Shorthand dashboard.  Adding tags your stories allows you to easily group them and filter your dashboard by theme, project, status, or any other classification scheme you apply.

Tags you apply are shared across all users of your workspace, so can be a valuable collaboration tool.

How to add and remove tags

You can add and remove tags from individual stories through their card on the dashboard and from within the story editor.

On the dashboard

Each story card has a 'Tags' menu that is accessible from the story card menu.

Pressing the 'Tags' button will open a window that allows you to apply tags and remove tags from that story:

To apply an existing tag, click on the 'Add a tag' dropdown menu and select from one of the options.

Typing within the drop-down menu will filter the list to show all existing tags that match your input.  If no existing tag matches, you have the option to add your input as a new tag which will be applied to the story, and will also be available to use as a tag on other stories:

To remove a tag from a story, press the X icon on the tag you want to remove:

In the story editor

You can also add and remove tags from within the story editor. The functionality is the same as on the dashboard, and the tags menu can be found under the 'Settings' tab:

Managing tags

Tags can be added and managed by anyone in your workspace, regardless of their role. To manage tags and see which tags are being used,  press the 'EDIT TAGS' button at the bottom of the tags menu on the dashboard or in the editor.

This will open the 'Edit tags' panel where you can edit tags (change their text), delete them from the workspace, and see how many stories are using each tag:
