By default, stories created in Shorthand will work "out-of-the-box" and do not require any technical testing.
However, for stories where the developer features have been used (e.g., CSS, JS or HTML), we strongly encourage you test all customisations for your Shorthand story, as you would any other web development project.
It is very important to understand that adding code within the developer tools may break your story. In some exceptional cases your Custom CSS may even break our Shorthand application, which will require you to contact us to remove the offending code.
While Shorthand does not intend to break your stories with updates, it is also worth being aware any custom code you have written may not be forwards compatible with future Shorthand releases.
Themes created by Shorthand, and out-of-the-box features, have been tested to work on the following device/operating systems and browsers.
OPERATING SYSTEM | OPERATING SYSTEM VERSION | BROWSER | BROWSER VERSION |
Mac OSX | Latest version | Chrome Safari Firefox | Latest version |
Windows | 10 | Edge (Chromium) Chrome Firefox | Latest version |
Android phones | Latest Android | Chrome | Latest version |
iPhones & iPads | Latest iOS | Safari | Latest version |
We would always recommend making sure you have the most up-to-date version of the browser you are using. While we try our best to support older versions of browsers, newer versions often change or introduce new functionality meaning we have to react and update the editor. Unfortunately, sometimes this results in older versions of browsers experiencing issues.
When generating your story for publishing, we package code to drive the story. Therefore, if browsers change their features after a story has been published it may need to be republished.
Ensuring that hardware is as up-to-date as possible is also important. Older devices can encounter CPU issues and may present problems when trying to load some web pages, particularly those that have lots of heavy media files (or Shorthand stories that go beyond the recommended 25 sections).
If you find your stories are experiencing issues, we can certainly look into it and see whether there is a way to fix the specific issue(s) you are facing, however we can only guarantee support for the latest version for both the editor and stories.
